WE'RE GIVING BACK

We're Giving Back

For the second year in a row, we're delighted to be donating 15% from orders received between 26 and 29 November to charity. This donation is instead of participating in a black Friday sale.

For 2021 we have chosen Women's Aid as the charity we will donate to. This charity is the leading organisation in Ireland that works to stop domestic violence against women and children.

Thank you all so much for supporting this small business in 2021.

GOLD FILL JEWELLERY - WHAT IS IT?

gold fill jewellery - what is it?

At A Box For My Treasure we exclusively use the material known as gold fill (previously known as rolled gold) for the gold jewellery we make. We get lots of questions about this material, so here's a round up of the most common ones and our answers:

1. What is gold filled metal?

Well, to put it simply, gold fill is when a thick layer of gold is bonded with heat and pressure to a layer of base metal (often brass). Gold fill does not flake off due to the bonding process and must contain 5% gold to qualify to be called gold fill.

2. Is gold fill jewellery tarnish resistant?

Gold fill jewellery is tarnish resistant and won't discolour with continued wear.

3. Can I wear gold fill jewellery in water?

Wearing gold fill jewellery in the shower won't cause any damage, but avoid wearing in chlorinated water. It's also best to apply creams and perfumes before putting on your jewellery.

4. Is it suitable for sensitive skin?

Yes, the gold fill material we use contains no nickel or known allergens.

5. How long will gold fill jewellery last?

Gold fill jewellery can last up to 30 years.

NECKLACE LAYERING - FIND YOUR LOOK

Necklace Layering ideas

Necklace layering is a jewellery trend that is here to stay and there are endless ways to come up with your own unique combination of necklaces, that works right just for you.

It's a gorgeous way to dress up a casual outfit and to create a signature look.

But there are a few important tips to keep in mind, to avoid the frustration of tangling and to get the balance of the look just right:

> Choose a maximum of 3 necklaces.

> Choose one shorter, almost choker length chain / necklace.

> Mix up your chain styles - you can still keep the look delicate, but a mixture of chain textures will help to avoid tangling.

The perfect combination is one necklace with a pendant, paired with a simple chain. And although most of the examples of necklace layering that we see are with gold metal, layering silver necklaces looks lovely too.

We've put together a few looks, to show you some of the available options (pictured above):

1. Gold Rope chain, paired with the Hellebore necklace from the Seasons Change collection.

2. Silver Satellite chain, paired with the Silver Birth Flower necklace.

3. Wavy Link chain, paired with the Dainty Gold Layered necklace.

SEASONS CHANGE COLLECTION

Gold botanical necklace with flowers

We recently launched a new collection of necklaces, with the theme of Seasons. The Seasons Change collection is the latest addition to the botanical range of jewellery we so love to make and features a new rectangle shaped pendant.

The theme for this collection is inspired by the hope and challenges that a new season brings. We often favour a particular season and attach different emotions to them – the long bright days of summer; the changing leaves of autumn; cosy winter evenings; or the feeling of renewal that comes with spring. Seasons and their changes can evoke all kinds of feelings and memories.

Each necklace in the Seasons Change collection represents a season, with the hopeful message that flowers bloom in all seasons.

Seasons change collection

Winter: Hellebore is the flower for winter and this hardy bloom is proof that flowers bloom in even the harshest of conditions.

Spring: Cherry Blossoms are the hopeful sign of brighter and warmer days to come.

Summer: Hydrangeas represent gratitude and their colour and generous blooms are a welcome sight on summer days.

Autumn: Dahlias provide colour and delight when all of the summer blooms have faded away.

The necklaces are created using our preferred hand stamping technique, with custom designed metal stamps. The gold filled pendants are stamped with our unique flower designs and are paired with our dainty but durable and adjustable chain.

HAND STAMPED JEWELLERY - DESIGN PROCESS

This month we wanted to share with you a behind the scenes look at the design process for the botanical jewellery range.

The process usually begins by researching vintage botanical illustrations & doing some rough sketches of ideas. Vintage illustrations contain the kind of detail we hope to be able to capture in the final design.

The ideas are then worked on by an illustrator & turned into a design that will work as a tiny stamp - no easy feat!

Design process

Once the design is finalised, it's then handed over to our stamp maker, who turns it into a metal stamp.

The stamp is then ready for jewellery making. Discs are stamped by hand with the metal stamp blocks, to emboss them with the design.

VERSATILE EAR HUGGER HOOPS

Gold ear huggers

We recently launched a new range of gemstone ear huggers, with a mix and match option where you can swap out the different colour stones to turn one pair of hoop earrings into multiple.

There's also an option to wear the ear huggers on their own, for a chic and minimal look.

To swap out or remove the gemstones, simply open the hinge on the hoop and slide off the bead - it's as simple as that!

The dainty gold ear hugger hoops are made from hypoallergenic gold fill and are very comfortable to wear.

BLACK FRIDAY UPDATE

BLACK FRIDAY UPDATE

Previously A Box For My Treasure has participated in Black Friday sales, but it wasn't sitting right with me to do that this year. A lot of my loyal customers have already done their Christmas shopping and would miss out on any discount, and the charity sector has been hit really hard during the pandemic, with a lot of their traditional fundraising activities unable to go ahead.

So, instead of a discount, I will be donating 15% of sales made during 26-30 November to the following charities:

Direct Provision Donations (supporting people in Direct Provision).

Peter McVerry Trust (supporting people experiencing homelessness).

Thank you so much for your support,

Judith
